Pixie Valentine

Pixie Valentine
Woof,

My name is Miss Pixie Valentine and I’m a rescued Chihuahua puppy. I live in New Orleans with my two older Chihuahua sisters, Jasmine and Olive, and my human parents. If you’re wondering what the significance is behind my middle name, Valentine, it was the middle name of my human mom’s grandmother, so it’s a tribute to her. Unfortunately, I did not have the chance to meet her, but she lives on with me.

My life started out a bit uncertain, but now I’m a happy, healthy, fun-loving ball of energy (at times a bit too much as I drive my big sisters crazy!) It all began when my pooch parents were surrendered to Once Upon A Tail, a terrific rescue group based in St. Tammany Parish. My mom and dad were both adopted into great homes, but at that time it was unknown that my mom had two of us living inside of her tiny three-pound body. As mom continued to expand, she was taken to the vet, who discovered that she was about ready to give birth.

Mom was so small that the veterinarian had to perform a C-section to get my bother and me out alive. We each weighed less than half a pound when we were born, and our human caretakers were unsure if we would survive. They said it was “touch and go” for a while, but they continued to take great care of us. Soon after our birth, we were fortunate to find a wonderful foster mom who bottle fed us around the clock and nurtured my brother and me until we were ready for our “furever” homes.

It was a very strange time as the world was in the midst of a pandemic, and most humans were spending more time at home than usual. Mom and dad were enjoying a typical evening at home when my photo popped up on mom’s social media feed. Apparently, as soon as she saw my precious little face, she instantly fell in love! Mom immediately reached out to her friend Liz who had shared the post to express her desire to adopt me. Mom and dad were thrilled that they were selected to adopt me and in just a few days, my new mom picked me up from my foster parents, and my new life began.

I was a mere 1-pound, ten-week-old white fur ball when I was brought into my new home to meet my new folks and four-legged siblings. The oldestsister, Olive Jean, took to me right away and even let me snuggle with her. Initially my other sister, Jasmine Noir, was not very excited to no longer be the baby. However, it did not take long for me to win her over with my charming personality! Today we are besties, and she’s my favorite playmate.

I have to say that my life is pretty darn good. I go for daily walks around Mid-City, where I discover all sorts of fun things like cats, birds, squirrels, joggers, bikers and other pups. I’m quite vocal (often to mom’s dismay) and love to bark at everyone and everything that I encounter. Who can blame a girl for simply wanting attention? I mean, I’m pretty darn cute, and I’m not ashamed to admit it!

Lots of humans and fur friends come hang out in our yard, so there’s no shortage of playmates. I squeal with delight when one of my human friends holds me, and I simply adore cheek kisses. I love attention from everyone, but especially from my mommy. Some say that she spoils me, but I believe that I just wiggled my way into her heart!

Playtime is so much fun. I love chasing tiny tennis balls, roughhousing with stuffed toys, and playing tug of war. But my favorite of all time is Rocky, my de-stuffed fuzzy raccoon that I just can’t live without! You see, since I didn’t have the chance to suckle my birth mom, Rocky has become a kind of surrogate to me. When I’m sleepy or cranky, Rocky is the perfect pacifier and brings me comfort. The vet says I may outgrow my Rocky-sucking, but frankly I think he’s going to stick around forever.

I’m also a major foodie, and by that I mean that I worship food more than life itself! Despite the fact that I weigh only four pounds, I can eat my weight in kibbles. I NEVER miss a meal and will do practically anything for a treat. Mom says that because I’m food motivated, I’ve been quite easy to train. Sounds like a win-win to me!

And, just when I didn’t think life could get any better, I’ve been tapped to write pooch product reviews for PupAndPurr.com. I didn’t know that I had a dream job, but if I did, this would definitely be it! I get to sample all kinds of tasty tidbits, sport designer fashions, play with new toys and try out pup products. I’m thrilled to be part of the Pup & Purr pack and look forward to bringing you Pixie’s Picks.

Licks and Wags,
Pixie
