Take one step inside of The Red Carpet on Magazine Street and you’ll immediately be captivated by two things: The sheer volume of exquisite, sparkling formalwear and Ellie, the adorable four-month-old French Bulldog, who enthusiastically greets customers. “Ellie comes to work with me every day and everyone adores her. She LOVES attention, especially from kids. She has a way of letting kids know not to be afraid of her. She goes from arm to arm all day long, then eventually heads to her bed to crash,” Dawn says of the precocious, black and white puppy. “We have a platform surrounded by mirrors that customers use when trying on dresses. Ellie gets on it to admire herself in the mirror. She’s really something else!”

As an adult, Dawn’s first pooch was a Boston Terrier named Roxy, who was her sidekick for 14 years. “Roxy was a sweetheart and pretty laid-back, even from a puppy. After she passed, I got a Frenchie named Febe, who was very calm and easygoing. But this one, she’s incredibly tenacious. She’s got so much spunk and spirit. She even talks back to me like she’s arguing, which is hilarious. But she’s also a snuggle bug and sweet as can be,” she adds.

Dawn’s love of fashion began in college when she took a fashion class “to get an easy A. I fell in love with it and switched my major. I went to work at Saks Fifth Avenue and found my true passion.” Dawn’s venture into shop ownership came at a young age—she was only 21—when she met a couple who owned a bridal business that they were looking to sell. She purchased the salon, which evolved over the years until Dawn discovered that her real expertise was in formalwear. “I have an eye for it. I can look at someone’s body and select the perfect style,” explains the newlywed, who married her grammar school boyfriend. “Charlie and I were sweethearts when I was 14 years old. Life took us in different directions, but we remained friends.” Decades later the couple reconnected, fell in love and “couldn’t be happier.”

Gown-seeking clients flock to The Red Carpet for their extraordinary collection and exceptional customer service. “Whether your want something classic or meow sexy, we have a dress for everyone.” The Red Carpet boasts one of the largest dress collections in town, offering 5,000 selections in both the Uptown and Mandeville locations. “We carry styles that you don’t see other places and offer sizes from triple zero to 30. We’re a one-stop glam shop. We can style your dress with the perfect accessories, from handbags to jewelry, and we offer in-house alterations. I know our clients feel great when they find the perfect dress, but it’s also very rewarding for me to know that I had a hand in making them feel beautiful.”
