Dog owners sometimes need professionals in dog behavior for consultations, private lessons and to learn why dogs do the things they do. This helps create a strong bond between you and your dog. Almost all dogs can be trained to have amazing compliance regardless of age, size, or breed. Brooke Defore, owner and head trainer of The Dog School of New Orleans, absolutely loves seeing the joy in a dog and their owner’s face when they master a new command.

Do you wish you could take your dog in public without them embarrassing you? Does your dog jump on guests? Do you want to start your puppy off on the right track? Do you have an aggressive dog and don’t know what to do? Do you have a fearful, anxious dog who needs help building confidence? The Dog School of New Orleans can help you!

They know how special the bond between you and your dog is and how frustrating it can be when your dog is overly excited, jumps on people, or is easily distracted. They support excited puppies, anxious and skittish rescues, aggressive and rambunctious bullies, or just a dog who needs extra TLC and “fine-tuning.” They understand that their job is also guiding you to create a healthy and loving relationship with your dog.

When Brooke was seventeen years old, she joined the Mississippi Army National Guard as a Military Police Officer. She received a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Mississippi and became a police officer in 2014. She served as a K-9 handler and had the opportunity to work with two dogs. Her first dog King was a narcotic-detecting K-9. Brooke and King worked together to make the area she patrolled safer. When King retired, Brooke began working with Tibi, an explosive-detecting K-9 who still serves today. Brooke and Tibi completed explosive detection sweeps before events like the St. Jude marathon and numerous concerts in their area. Both King and Tibi were “dual purpose” partners; they could detect narcotics and explosives as well as track and apprehend suspects who had broken the law. While on the K-9 team, Brooke discovered her love for dogs and the importance of well-trained partners.

Brooke began The Dog School Memphis in 2021 and attended numerous training events to better understand her canine clients and help their owners succeed. In 2023, Brooke moved to Louisiana and started The Dog School New Orleans. She partnered with Jefferson SPCA and began the “Rescue Doggy Boot Camp.” This program helps large breed dogs that are currently living in the shelter become more adoptable. Brooke trains dogs selected by the shelter in leash manners, potty training, indoor manners, and basic obedience. This program includes a follow-up session with the new owner to teach them the skills their dog has learned, setting the owner and their pet up for success. So far The Dog School New Orleans has trained three shelter pups through their “Rescue Doggy Boot Camp” and look forward to continuing the partnership.

Brooke and her ten-year-old Great Dane Smokey enjoy taking vacations and car rides. Smokey is aging gracefully and enjoys leisurely lying in the sun and eating treats. Give her a ring at 901-496-6347 to create a unique training plan with you and your pup! In addition to basic, advanced, and puppy training, she also offers boarding for all dogs! If your dog has completed her training program, boarding is a great opportunity for free refresher obedience reinforcement in a highly structured, familiar environment with other stable dogs. You’ll receive daily pictures and videos of your pup’s activities while you are away so you can relax knowing that your precious fur baby is receiving professional handling.
